The Adventure Fiction Collection

Adventure stories are dominated by action and often involve danger, risk and excitement. What happens in the story is more important than the characters in it. This genre may include stories about war or conflict.

Mars Duology

Science fiction fans will enjoy this fight for survival, life-on-other-planets duology.

Raised in rival colonies on Mars, each long ago abandoned by Earth, Dee and Holt have been brought up to hate even the idea of each other. But when a mysterious object crash-lands on a far-flung plain, they are both sent to investigate and their fates intertwine. Together they must battle epic storms and deadly bioclouds while unpicking the web of lies they have been told about their planet. Will their bond be strong enough to withstand the arrival of a mysterious invader that threatens to end life on Mars forever? (publisher)

Adventure stories in other collections

Many adventure stories readily fit into other genres, set in magical or alternative worlds and time periods, and can be suspenseful, particularly those with a survival element. Here is a sample - library staff can help you locate others.

Wolf Girl series

An illustrated adventure series about a girl named Gwen who finds herself separated from her parents and alone in the wilds, until she makes friends with a curious mix of canines (wolf puppy, a lab, a chihuahua and a greyhound) and discovers new talents to survive.

Wylah the Koorie Warrior series

Wylah (pronounced Wee-La) is a First Nations adventure fantasy series "inspired by First Nations history and grounded in culture." Imaginative illustrations form an important part of the stories - the drawings of Wylah's magafauna friends are gorgeous!

Trash

Fourteen-year-olds Raphael and Gardo team up with a younger boy, Rat, to figure out the mysteries surrounding a bag Raphael finds during their daily life of sorting through trash in a third-world country's dump.

Quest of the Sunfish series

A fantasy nautical adventure series.

"When Will and Annalie's father disappears, they set out on a perilous sea voyage to find him. The motley crew of runaways put their faith in each other, and in a small sailing boat called the Sunfish. In a world transformed by a catastrophic Flood, they embark on an adventure that will test their ingenuity, and their friendship, to the limits. The crew face off against storms and pirates, but the biggest threat of all comes from the Admiralty, the all-powerful navy that rules the oceans of the world." (publisher, Book 1)
